About me

Red Rover

I come from a 35 year career in advanced electronics. Some of the titles I have held are: Satellite Communications Technician, Shipboard Navigational and Acoustical Research Engineer, Microwave Systems Integration’s Manager, Digital Satellite Video Broadcast Engineer and Network Engineer. One of my collateral duties at two of my jobs was designing/developing and maintaining the company websites. I took a liking to it and built a network of my own websites, 75 sites in all. Due to personal struggles at the time I gave up my network of websites. Now that I have more time on my hands I decided to jump back into things. Especially considering all the advancements in website design over the last 10-15 years. Websites are more dynamic, responsive and building them is much easier, my earlier websites were in the late 90’s early 2000’s. Everything was done with straight coding. Heck, Dreamweaver, a WYSIWYG editor was considered a Godsend when it came out, I believe in 1997. It had a steep learning curve of it’s own and you still needed to know code. Now however, you can get a pretty decent website up and running without touching any (much) code. I still recommend web developers/designers learn some coding though. It will surely come in handy somewhere in your experiences. Due to their complexity websites break easier these days and there’s not always going to be someone around to fix it for you (for free anyway). I prefer to leave most of the back end development to the pro’s though and spend my time in the design arena. It’s easier with theme applications like Divi or WPBakery Page Builder. Pretty much plug-n-play. But things aren’t always cake and ice-cream though, especially when you start introducing 3rd party plugins or you need to change or add something out of the norm. There are just so many darn programming languages now it’s next to impossible to be proficient in them all. Back in the day you could do a lot with just HTML. After all, back then the websites were static. Looking back at some old website though, they sure were boring. Not much to look at compared to the dynamic websites of today. And who knows what tomorrow brings. Well enough about web design. This is supposed to be a biography. So other than hunkering down at my computer I also enjoy playing pool and darts, that’s why I have categories for each on this site. I also love motocross. I have to limit myself to being a spectator nowadays though. Too many injuries over the years and I’m getting too old to be racing around on dirt bikes. Might break a hip. I also play guitar, since I was 12 but I put it down for several years so now my fingers are too sensitive. Have to callous them back up again. I also took up learning piano about 6 months ago. I’ve been taking lessons on-line during that time. I also have been giving a try at music production. Purchased a lot of equipment and software to make a home studio and slowly learning the ropes with it. I don’t have time to do everything at once so I’ll work at one thing for a spell then hop over to something else, and so on. Given another 260 years I might be proficient at all my hobbies. Well, that’s enough about me. I hope you are able to register, create a profile and add something about yourselves as well. I’m doing everything I can to make this site as community driven as possible. I hope you enjoy the site.
